HDMI ARC is better than optical if your receiver/soundbar support it. DD plus, DTS-HD require the ARC connection. TV will downmix those to less bandwidth codecs if only optical is used.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This TCL Roku TV has both an Optical out port and an HDMI ARC port. Either of which can be used to connect external speakers or audio systems. Thank you, TCL Customer Support

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it has fiber optic output. However, it also has an HDMI out that has ARC ( audio return channel ). If you use a home theater receiver, using the ARC output allows the TV to turn the receiver on and off if it also has an ARC input ( most do ). The optical output is very useful if you have a sound bar. One note - this unit does NOT have the RCA red/white analog audio outputs found on many other TVs, although more seem to be omitting it as well. If you are using an older receiver lacking optical or HDMI, you will need to get a $20 converter to get analog output. I had to do this because the transmitter for my older whole house wireless speaker system only has the RCA input ( it’s old, but I love it ).
