My iPhone is very responsive to “swipes” but some of the functions have been relocated compared to older phones. For example, the swipe up on my iPhone 6 Plus is from the bottom of the iPhone 6 and reveals several functions Including the flashlight. On the iPhone XR, these functions are accessed by swiping down diagonally from the top right of the phone. The flashlight can also be turned on using the icon on the bottom left of the home screen. Hope this helps.

I have used this case with the iPhone X and now the iPhone XS Max. Ive had zero issues with any function of the phone while in the case (swipes, gestures, camera, volume buttons, etc). I and my phones are well traveled, flying about 150k miles a year and journeying into some remote, difficult places. It's always kept my phones safe and sound and they have all been dropped multiple times. I feel like all these cases are overpriced. But...I know this case and I know it works for me so thats why I bought it again.
