No, you do not need WiFi, but you do need to live within range of the television station's broadcast towers. There is a reference website that goes along with the product that allows you to see what you should reasonably expect to pick up.

You do not need WiFi. Antenna connects to your TV via F-connector (cable) and is powered by either TV's USB port or included AC/USB power adapter. Signal comes for digital air channels.
