“Does it work solely off an app? Some reviews are saying this camera doesn’t record unless the app is open while you’re driving. Seems like it would be a nightmare to open an app and connect to it every time.”

This camera will work independently of the app. You do not have to have the app open to record footage. The app is actually optional. You can use the app to change settings of the camera and download footage but it is not required. You can just pop the ad card out and insert it into your laptop and download the footage that way.
