It does have parking mode recording (must be hardwired to function, as plugging into a 12v cigarette lighter port is not constant power). It has a few built-in modes for that. Timelapse will record low FPS constant video, Impact detection (only starts recording about 1 sec after impact, so no video leading up to impact), and motion detection (which starts recording when motion is detected, doesn't require impact so can capture vandalism). An add-on radar module is available from Thinkware, which will activate the camera when a large object (like a car, not a person) is detected. It will record the video if an impact is detected during that time (10 seconds before and after impact). The radar will allow the u1000 to run in the best power saving mode during parking mode, so it last the longest time. To further increase the time it can run in park mode (since drawing power from the car battery will eventually lower it enough that the camera will have to power down so it doesn't fully drain it and you can't start the car), there are also a number of battery pack options available. Those will give you the longer parking mode run time and not drain the car battery at all while off (as they recharge when the car is running).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it records when parked IF you have it installed using the hardwiring cable, which comes included in the bundle box. I had mine installed by Geek Squad.
