The tile would be very far out of range at even a mile away. However, tiles do have the ability to pinpoint their last known location on your phone. In addition to that, every time someone with a tile walks by your tile, it will notify you of its exact location so that you can easily locate it even if it’s not in the “last known location”.

Please try again later.The Tile uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone so it wouldn't ring and you would not see the current location but what does happen is that your phone keeps a record of the Tile's location if the Tile had a chance to check in. You would see the last location your Tile reported to the phone. Hopefully, you would see the last reported position.

Also, I believe other people's phones setup with Tile will report location when they are in proximity of the device. The website should give more information about it though.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use Life 360. My son goes a few miles away to his dad’s house and I can track him with the tile on his bike. It’s real time. It’s better than an Air Tag because if someone steals his bike they won’t know the tag is on there. Whereas if he had an Air Tag on there and someone had an Apple device it would immediately alert the thief that there was a tracking device on the bike. A thief would never know the tag was on the bike before we found the bike.
