All you need is a good digital antenna. I use a Mohu Leaf Ultimate and get great signal. Broadband (maybe 6 Mbps or better) is needed if you want to watch any of the streaming services that this connects to like Netflix or Hulu Plus..

It will simply download and update the guide using the cellphone's wireless connection, but it can get intense if it has to do an update. You also need a subscription to use the box.
