“please clarify about recording a previous question asked if you can record and answers were 'no'. But the reviewers talk a lot about how great the recording capabilities are....this is confusing..what are you able to record then, since 'tivo' is mainly a recording machine..thanks for any help”

You can record from your cable or tv provider, but not from netflix or other streaming services.
