• I just spoke with a TomTom agent and was told the TomTom Trucker 620 requires a smartphone connection to get live traffic updates. No antenna option is available.

• Yes, I believe you can download updates without using your cell phone. When I set up mine, I didn't even connect it to the computer. I did everything, including updating MAPs, through Wi-Fi connection. So if you're on the road and need to update your device, you'll need Wi-Fi or your cell phone.
