• you wil need to partition the drive and format it. If you are keeping you windows 8 drive and adding this you are ready to go. If you are replacing your drive you will have to load windows 8 and all other software you want.

• Like all internal hard drives, it comes completely blank. So yes, you will need to install your choice of operating system before it can be used (unless you're simply installing the drive in an extra bay to expand your storage space).

• if this is your only drive then load windows 8. if you use it as a backup it is plug and play.

• This product does not come with any software pre-installed. You would need to load anything you need onto it after it is installed in the PC.
