“The optical sound out stopped working almost immediately; switched to 3.5mm, and now that has failed. Cables are good. Fortunately, my soundbar (Samsung w/wireless sub) has bluetooth, and we have sound again, but what's the issue? Firmware is good.”

• I don't have an answer for you, only comiserating. I hooked it up both ways like you did, and only the Bluetooth connection worked.
