• From what I've seen, It can get 5.1 channels out via the optical cord. It might be able to do more channels, but I have not tested that since 5.1 is all my home theater has.

• There is a setup option for "movie" sound, but with the two small built-in speakers, you can't expect to come close to the sound of a theater.
