USB 3.0 transfers are up to 640 MBps (Megabytes Per Second), 2.0 transfers are up to 60 MBps; basically USB 3.0 is about 10 times faster than USB 2.0. You have to check your computer to see if it has USB 3.0 ports. This drive is backwards compatible with 2.0 which means it works with both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports. Hope this helps.
