It depends. Most commercial video tapes and DVDs have copy protection, which cannot be duplicated with this recorder. You might also have premium content from your cable/satellite companies that have copy protection as well. For instance, if your record one of these programs with a DVR, then want to copy it to this recorder, it won't work if copy protection is present. "Your" tapes and DVDs that you recorded can be copied.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not sure whether it's possible to copy commercial movies from VHS to DVD. I seem to remember reading somewhere a long time ago that studios had put something on the tape that would make dubbing impossible.
