“Can you record only bits and pieces of different vhs tapes to a dvd? I have several videos of my daughter growing up and at various events/competitions. I want to transfer from vhs to dvd only the parts including her. I would like to prepare one video on dvd for her wedding reception.”

Yes. However. I think this can only be done in DVD+R recording mode since you will be swapping out tapes to get to the desire sections. I would suggest having the VHS tapes set to the desired locations before starting to avoid searching in the middle of a recording session. Another suggestion would be to construct a single VHS tape with the various events and then covert that tape over to DVD. Of course that would require a second VHS recorder. Good luck.
