One of the adapters must remain connected to your router via Ethernet cable (just 1 cable). The other port on the same unit can be used for another device, such as a desktop PC, if desired. On the secondary adapter, both Ethernet ports can be used to supply wired connectivity to network client devices (i.e. smart TV, console, etc.)
