“The building next to my work has community college wifi and I can get wifi outside of our building. Once I go inside I loose signal. Will this boost their wifi signal if I put this near the door?”

If you can get Wi-Fi (with your personal device) in the location that you plan to plug in the extender, then this Range Extender should work for you. When you test, make sure to hold your personal device (phone, ipad, etc) right in front of the outlet where you plan to install the Range Extender.
