It is both wireless and Ethernet. Either way you need to connect it to a modem.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, of course it needs to be plugged into the Modem with an Ethernet Cable. I am unaware of any Router that is wireless to a wireless router. If you have a wireless router (which exists) then you would just wireless connect it to your device. That said, IF you have a wireless Modem I don't know if this connects to the wireless modem and you can use it as a repeater to your desktop. but this like generally all routers does need to be connected to modem via ethernet as far as I know.
