Hi! In most situations, they can be in any direction. However, if the extender is laying flat/horizontal, and you are not receiving the extension/range you expected, then positioning the antennas upward (toward the ceiling) may help.

Antennas are polarized, which means they should all face the same direction, ie vertical or horizontal. Do not "point them" at something unless they are a Yagi antenna which these are not.
