“What are practical distances between the units? I understand that closer is better, but at what distance do they lose effectiveness? Also, do the satellites piggyback or do they all receive only from the main unit?”

I think these are good for at least 30'. Newly moved into a compact three-story townhouse and these piggyback really well up the three flights to take care of hardware in office up there. Wifi router is on the first floor. These have been great.

Satellites can be daisy chained if the main unit is out of range and this will happen automatically. The rule we say is 25-30 feet between nodes. This allows for proper overlap and coverage to ensure seamless transfers between nodes as you move through the network.
