I downloaded the KASA app to do all the set up. I don’t believe you can do the actual set without it. But could be wrong. The KASA app is very simple. After the set up is done both Alexa and Google recognize the device and can be controlled with them. The KASA app does all of the TP Link smart devices.

Yes, first you have to download Kasa app to setup then link Alexa to it.

Yes, you need to download the Kasa app in order to install the switch. Once it is installed, you can enable a skill on Alexa so that Alexa can control the switch.
