a sim and account will not affect anything he's already doing on the phone... he will get a new number but the number he uses for wifi only calling/texting will still work so he will then have 2 numbers. and as cloud space is apple stuff its just an online storage area so it will always be there no matter what device or service he uses... hope that helps.
