First, I will say that I am happy with this phone and with Tracfone. There is no contract. It is prepaid. They sell the cards at many stores such as supermarkets, drugstores, Bestbuy and Target. You can also purchase a plan at the Tracfone website. It is a Tracfone. If you don't want Tracfone service and you want to get a different carrier, then you should definitely choose a different phone. After purchasing the phone, it has to be activated before you can use it. After activating, you won't be able to make calls or text until you purchase a plan.
