What is the difference between using this software vs TurboTax online? I've done the online option for years, which is free except for the filing fee. Does buying the software eliminate that fee, but not the state one? Thanks! null

The state one is included the software package for TurboTax Deluxe.  You just have to select the state that applies to your tax situation.  It is usually the state with your permanent address.

Thank you for your response. I ended up getting it last night to file my taxes. While it is very similar to the online version, it is nice that I can file my in-laws taxes under one account instead of having to create one for each of them.

However, the most frustrating part about everything is still having to pay the $40 e-filing deposit fee. I had hoped that purchasing the software would alleviate that, but I was wrong.

the federal filing is free up to 5 returns, the state filing fee depends on the individual state, I use NY and they require you to file electronically and therefore its free. I have also used AZ and they charge. The software offers a form view and an interview that is similar to the online. The interview version I find tedious to go back to recheck something, if you are familiar with the forms it is easier to find something.
