TurboTax includes the program for your state taxes. If you file a paper return there is no charge but if you want to file electronically you have to pay a fee. Just print out your return and mail it in to save money!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.TurboTax hides this fee... You essentially paid for them to Prep your state and Federal return. e-filing it costs extra as a convenience fee (theoretically you could print the returns and mail/file them yourself for free) It is stupid and a gotcha tactic but until they change the policy, or be more upfront about it. thats just how it is. Sorry.

What they mean by includes state is you can have the software or file returns using it federally for I think 5 returns (same country) and the same for state but you can only download one state set of software and filing tools. I think the only work around would be to print and mail. What they're saying is you choose one state, you cant pick say Florida and then later go on and download New York later...you get one state free...but just the filing tools and software. Some states offer direct filing at no charge and if you make lower than a certain amount it's also possible to free file, but not if you have complicated investments.
