“Normally chat is broadcast through the TV speaker system on xbox 1 - will this change if the mic is hooked up to the xbox? I like being able to listen to the chat when my son is playing and I don’t want that to change. Thanks in advance!!”

You will be able to hear your son. There is no change. I'm a dad too and I listen in too.
