I'm not sure about direct wiring because it uses a USB which is normally 5V. The dash cam automatically turns on and records when powered on, meaning if you plug it in while the USB is connected. When you unplug the power source, it automatically shuts off. So, if your 12V outlet is powered / switched when the vehicle is running, it will turn on and off automatically.
