• Yes this is how it is. You can also remove the micro sd card and plug it to your computer. No need for the redundant usb connection. Leave the camera in the car and download the footage from the SD card.

• that is correct...the cigarette lighter plug is for power, as you stated, but remember it also has an internal rechargeable battery to run the unit when not connected. and yes it also has a usb connection for downloading to your computer, etc, that also charges the battery while connected
