• Long story short, is it scans radar bands police use to track your speed and alerts you to their presence. Additionally it alerts you if a police radar is pointing at it as well. The alert is audio and visual that include the type of alert, the radar band, and signal strength, There are many online sources to learn about radar/laser detectors and how. I prefer Vortex Radar, but others are valuable as well.
