From what I’ve read and experienced the unit itself is identical. The difference is in the items that come with the detector. If you feel the different power cord, big suction cup mount, and carrying case are valuable to you, the R1 is the way to go. If you feel you wouldn’t use those accessories, the R1BBY is the right choice. I personally went with the R1BBY and with the savings, purchased accessories that more fit my needs.

R1BBY is about $100.00 less in price. If you want the smart cord or songle soction they can be purchased later at a much cheaper price

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The radar detectors are the same. The R1BBY accessories have a power cord & twin small suction cup mounts. The R1 kit has the same and also a power cord with a mute button & isb charge port & a large sticky suction cup. Best Buy is the only retailer to offer just the basic kit. For me I didn't need the options especially for the money. Get 1 before they run out of stock. It's the best detector & the best rated bang for the buck. It doesn't have all the options but I'm very happy with my purchase & I'm probably going to get one for my wife.

The only difference between the two is the R1 comes with an additional windshield mount, but the one included in the R1BBY is the better mount anyway, a 12v power cord with a USB port as opposed to just a regular 12v power cord, and a travel case
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.They have the same spec which means they are exactly the same. BBY is the version only sold in BestBuy. However, there are two differences regarding the accessories in the box. The car charger comes with regular R1 has a mute button but BBY's car charger doesn't have that button. The regular R1 includes two suction mount, single and double; BBY only has the double suction mount. There is a Youtube video explaining these two versions.
