If you are under contract with Verizon you might have to go back to them for assistance with changing devices. If you have no contract you might find that the existing SIM can be inserted into a new device and function fine. (Disclaimer: I have not personally tried this with my hotspot but I do this type of thing frequently when buying a new iPhone)
