• Yes, this device can only be accessed with a password. There is a default password, randomly assigned, given when you set it up the first time. You can change it in you account on the Verizon Mobile Wireless website.

• It does provide you a secure connection. You can even personalize the password by going to your account online. Just like your home wifi is secured with a password.
