The best answer is yes, and no...let me explain. The device works as a connected device like how an LTE enabled smartwatch works on your account. The device will technically have it's own phone number assigned to it, however for all cellular communications it will share your primary phone number. Verizon's term for this is "number sharing." You don't have to get a totally separate line, per se, but you will have to pay a $10/month line access fee, just as you would with an LTE enabled smartwatch. All that being said, I do not recommend this device and I suggest you read my review regarding why I returned the device within five days of purchasing it.
