Hi mom of three! Sorry this took me a minute, but I needed to look into it myself. I bought this phone for my mother to replace her 5C, and didn’t realize Verizon even had a prepaid phone plan! So luckily, your question helped me to steer off problems when I get back to see my mom in a few weeks. From what I can tell, these phones were marked down by Verizon as a way of satisfying customers who want a limited commitment; I.e. a pre-paid phone account. So, you have to register this phone with Verizon as a prepaid account, and pay them at least one month payment, @ $30 I think, before you can take the phone into a Verizon store and have them do the Sim card thing. But once you’ve applied for the prepaid account, which obviously will have a different phone number and account number, you need to tell them you want them to ‘release’ that phone right away - or in a month, if you prefer, because you’re going to make it a free agent, as it were, and use it as your regular phone on your family plan, with the old number. So, for about 35 bucks, and some extracurricular paperwork and hoop-jumping, I believe it is possible. That’s as much as I found out; I’ll find out soon if it works or not. Good luck with it in any case. Best, Dopey (bought the wrong kind of phone!!)
