1) one is a contract , were you pay each month for so many years. If you cancel before the contract ends , you will be PENALIZE. - 2) Is a Prepaid service that is from MONTH to MONTH Payments. At the end of 30 days you will need to renew your service. You can cancel your service at any time without penalty's

You buy $30 worth of service and then buy more once it's all gone. The other version is postpaid where you get a monthly bill. You can buy the phone, activate it as a prepaid, and then have Verizon transfer it to your postpaid account. It took me a about 4 phone calls and all afternoon talking to various people, but eventually it all worked! You might want to clarify and get things in writing from Verizon before going down the rabbit hole. Cheers!
