However long the tape is. I have not tried to speed up the tape playing so cannot say if that works as well.

Basically this one, (and all "converters") use an Analog to Digital converter in the form of an Integrated Circuit which takes IN the signal and converts it to the 1's and 0's that make a digital signal "digital" OUT to your computer. It is alternately known as a VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE. It works like a charm too! Just plug up the red, white and yellow cables RCA cables from YOUR thing into the back of THIS thing, hook it up to your computer, open the software, play your movie (or even a record, 45, or cassette tape) and let the computer capture the file. That's basically it, but name your file something you can find later, and let it go into "my videos", cause a movie called "video1" is not real informative as to what it is. I would NOT hesitate to buy this device, though it was a little painful to pay $70 from Best Buy. I had one previously which burned up after a short time, so I felt I had to spend the money to get something decent. If you have video tapes or other older media...this device will get you where you want to go. Burning your captured video to DVD is another ball of wax, not appropriate to this discussion. Good Luck.
