“Trying to connect a recently puchased vizio 2.0 soundbar to my 70" sharp tv. I connected it using the digital optical cable. I can not hear any sound coming out of the soundbar. What do i need to do to get this to work correctly.”

I recently connected this sound bar to a TV using the Digital Audio output. You will need to scroll through the "Source" settings on the sound bar using either the remote or the input button on the bar itself until you get to the Digital Audio part. The manual has a section that shows how to switch through the inputs, including decoding the light patterns to know which input you are currently on.
