• You need a (reasonably) high speed internet connection to get the Smart part of the TV. You will have to go through a router to which you can either hardwire to or use a wireless connection. Over the air or regular cable works with out the internet.

• Not exactly. You can still connect your cable or antenna to it for it to work. If you want to use the internet based apps, you need the internet as that's the purpose of a smart TV.
