I have a cable running to a box for my DirecTv and it works fine. The only thing the phone was needed for was the remote control app because the remote that comes with it is basically on/off and volume. I downloaded the phone app to program the tv but never use the phone now because I use my DirecTv remote.

Please try again later.Ok, yes this TV is so simple, plug in you cable for satellite or whatever, follow the instructions to download the Vizio smart cast app, now everything is at your fingertips, cast your smartphone or tablet with the push of a button when you are done switch back by turning cast off. Really simple... Good luck
