If your HDMI is connected properly then whatever device you are using should automatically change the input. When I am watching my Vizio TV my bar is in ARC. If I watch a movie on my Sony Blu Ray Player the bar switches over to HDMI IN automatically, I do not need to manually switch. Now it might depend on the setup of the device you are using which you connect to the bar. I just know that my system devices work automatically. The sound bar has on occasion lost its connection, so I use the bar's remote to switch on the bar and whatever device is running through is what the bar transmits.
