A:AnswereARC is needed for lossless audio codecs. Like DOlbyTrue HD Atmos, DTS:X. This soundbar works fine with lossy Atmos from DD+ from the streaming services like netflix. It has ARC. Which can handle lossy codecs and stereo pcm audio. I'm using mine with a TCL TV. And I have no problem getting Atmos from the internal apps on the TV. WHich uses the ARC to get the audio to the speaker bar.

HDMI ARC sends the audio signal from all inputs to the soundbar the plus is that it will take the sound level input from the TV source so you can pretty much put away the soundbar remote. I also found this worked over the optical cable input, but if you are after Dolby Atmos, then you have to use the HDMI ARC input. This soundbar also has an HDMI IN so you don't loose the use of the HDMI port on the TV just for sound. It has full pass through support.
