The distance between the outer sides of the stand legs is 38.88 inches.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes! I have this TV on a 40 inch table, and the stand fits with about 1/2 inch on either side. Obviously the screen extends past the edge by a few inches. I was afraid it would look wrong, but the shape of the stand, which slants inward, actually looks pretty good. However, it's close. If the cabinet is actually 39", it's not going to work.

Unfortunately this may be a deal breaker given than my stand (for an 8-yr-old 32 in. Sony Bravo) is only 35 inches wide. Close, but no cigar -- as the saying goes. Looks like I either buy a new stand or switch to a 50 inch Samsung which is $100 more -- but will fit on my stand. Note: As of today Best Buy appears to be sold out of the Samsung 50 class, which I believe was a Black Friday sale item. (I thought I read it has better sound.)
