IPS panels have slightly worse contrast but better viewing angles. So the blacks won't be quite as good, but better viewing if not straight-on. Perhaps some people prefer this trade off?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This IPS panel in the P series eliminates the washed out look on colors inherent to VA screens. We returned the identical (VA) M series Vizio due to inferior picture quality of Non 1080 or 4K signal. Viewed side by side in BestBuy, running their Hi-Res feed through a 50" & 55" monitor, I could not see a difference between the P series IPS and VA panels. Both were under the sales floor lighting. Even with the rumored loss of black inherent with running an IPS screen, I can't find it occurring. I'm sure a videophile could tell, but I'll take the color pop this IPA panel provides any day. With this particular IPS panel, on this brand, model and technology (Direct LED), it meets or exceeds the quality of other higher priced Edge-LED monitors. Throw in the upgraded 6" Android Octa-core, 1080p, 16gb tablet on the P series (M series is half'd on tablets performance), this 55" IPS model is a rare find.

I also had "IPS vs. VA anxiety", but after listening to my better senses I chose the 55" IPS and have absolutely no regrets. The VA's only have a 17° range before noticeable change in contrast/color, the IPS is 35°. If you have seats in the room off-axis like I do, you will regret getting a VA panel. Color has typically been better on IPS over VA, even looking straight-on, particularly with graphic design monitors (EIZO); that's why they continue to use them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.VA is typically better quality because of the deeper blacks and higher contrast. IPS does have the better viewing angles but I read that the viewing angle on the other sizes is good/great so it's a shame that they have IPS in the 55" (and 60hz in the 50"). Manufacturers will typically have different panels amongst the sizes of a series when there are supply issues.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your look at some of the tech review sites they generally say that the VA displays give better picture than the IPS display. Do not know why Vizio uses IPS in one size screen and VA in most of the other sizes. Same as the M Series where the 2016 M60-D1 will have IPA display but the other M Series sizes will be VA displays. Perhaps Vizio can clarify their thinking.
