I have the 55 and the blacks on this TV are extremely good. It seems like that portion of the screen is just off completely. They were able to pull this off with an IPS display due to the FALD backlighting.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 55 does have a IPS display so contrasts are not as good (side viewing is better) but in my experience when the screen goes black like before the credits I have to check to make sure the display is still on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just returned the 55" - watching in the dark, the blacks were by no means great - just better than an edge-lit IPS display. The only time when the screen appeared totally dark like and appeared like areas were turned off was when the actual screen went completely black like between movie scenes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The IPS panel in the P55-C1 is pretty nice, combined with the fact of FALD I do not think you will notice much difference unless you have a VA panel right next to it at the same time, ours produces pretty deep blacks and is quite view-able at night.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I was also concerned about the black levels. However, it does not seem to be a problem. I haven't had the TV long, but the picture, including the blacks, look great to me! I am no audio/video specialist, but I would highly recommend this 55" TV.
