“I have ordered a new vizio model M55-e-1 my direct tv box goes up to 1080p like my 6yr old vizio has. The new one is 2160p will I need a new satellite box from direct tv? Thanks PS the 6yo 50 inch still works fine, I just want the newer apps and sound etc”

It should work fine with the old box. Most of the 4K is all upscaling and not broadcast as of yet. I believe Direct TV may only broadcast like 4 channels in true 4K at this time. Its similar to how HD was limited to 6 channels for a few years now everything is in HD. If you buy 4K movies, have a 4k dvd player, xbox one x or ps4 pro you can take advantage of the 2160p too.
