I am not 100% clear on your issue, but it is possible that your remote is not working properly. It could cause the erratic behavior by sending keystrokes commands to the TV even though the buttons are not being pushed. Try using a different remote as a test. You may be able to use a smart phone remote for the test or the remote from your cable box.
