“Is it normal that the best picture has to be viewed if you are looking at it straight on? I find just slightly left or right and the picture is very cloudy and faded looking”

• Yes that is normal. This will be true of any TV from any manufacture using a "VA panel". For wider viewing angles from the side it's best to find a TV with an "IPS panel". This has it's own cons however, so do your research.

• Yes for this TV I have found that viewing from the side of the screen and lighting has a negative effect on viewing quality.
