It’s an OLED, so neither of those terms apply to it. Each pixel is their own light source, so kinda like direct lit, but perfect. When a pixel is black, it’s turned off and perfectly black. Picture below is a camera phone so not perfect, but you can see the 1” or so black bands that Disney+ puts on are not visible
