Short answer is yes. You don't want electronics to get hot. This is why computers have fans. If you mount a TV above a fireplace it must have a mantel above the combustion zone to deflect the heat away from the TV. The farther the mantel sticks out, the higher it will need to be (which could make for awkward viewing). Newer gas fireplaces include all this information to ensure you comply with local code and you don't end up catching your mantel on fire. However, if your fireplace gets cranking then it will warm up the entire area (possibly including the wall behind the TV) which could jeopardize the electronics inside the TV or at least decrease their lifespan.
