They would function as manufactured. They would run similarly but not the same as the 5.1 is meant for the satellite speakers to be connected. You would loose the rear audio.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Functions are slightly different but overall the same sound bar as far as I can tell. And no.. They won't sound and perform the same. Any time you go from mono, stereo, 3.1, 5.1 and 7.1 you are adding additional "areas" of sound and available sounds. Using 3.1 with 5.1 setting you'll lose some sound but it won't really be noticeable unless you knew it was there in the first place. I don't know all the technical elements to it though.
